Itinerary

  • Day trek to Triund

Trek to Himalayan foothills, the first range of Dhauladhar Mountains. Leave McLeod Ganj after early breakfast and walk through the mixed forest of oak, rhododendron and deodar trees. This is the most popular day hike. Birdwatchers will delight in spotting various songbirds along the trail. The trail is well marked all the way up to Triund. We can drive to Galu temple and start our hike from there it is 3/4 hours steep ascent to Triund. Small tea shops on the way can provide good refreshments. The climb is steep at some sections, but the refreshing walks amidst Rhododendron and Oak trees compensate for it. The last couple of switchbacks bring you out of the Rhododendron and out into the Triund ridge. Triund is an alpine meadow situates atop a flat ridge with fine views of peaks of Dhauladhar on one side and Kangra valley on the other side. After light lunch at Triund start descending to McLeod Ganj from the other side crossing the biggest waterfall of Bhagsunag. Coming down the hill takes a lot less time than it to climb up. Conversely if you have time visit Shiva Café to grab some evening snacks, spend some time near the Majestic waterfall of Bhagsunag and towards the end don’t forget to take blessing at Bhagsunag temple.
