About Kareri Lake Trek :
Kareri Lake Trek is a popular trekking destination located at an altitude of 11,220 feet in the Dhauladhar range near Dharamshala. Also known as Kumarwah Lake, this freshwater lake is a stunning sight to behold.
This high-altitude lake is a favorite among trekkers in the area, offering a serene and picturesque setting. During the winter months, the lake freezes over, only to thaw in the spring, serving as a source of water for a nearby stream. Kareri Lake also serves as a base for further trekking adventures into the Dhauladhar range, leading to destinations such as Chamba and Bharmour via Minkiani Pass (4250m) and Baleni Pass (3710m).
The trek to Kareri Lake is an ideal weekend getaway, offering a diverse and beautiful trail for outdoor enthusiasts. Along the way, trekkers will encounter a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Shakti, perched on a hilltop overlooking the lake, adding a spiritual element to the journey.

Day 1: - Dharamshala (Macleod Ganj) to Kareri - 2,000 m
We begin our trek after breakfast, embarking on the first day's journey of an 11km hike towards Kareri village, situated at an elevation of 2000m above sea level. The initial portion of the trek traverses undulating terrain until we reach Satobari Village, followed by a descent through pine forests leading to Ghere Village. The subsequent two hours involve an ascent to Kareri village, where we establish our camp beside the Laund River. We will spend the night in tents, surrounded by the serene beauty of the Himalayan landscape.

Day 2:- Kareri to Reyot Camp - 2,500 m
The upcoming 7 km trek from Kareri village to Reyot camp, situated at an altitude of 2600 m, is considered an easy to moderate hike with some steep descents. Reyot camp is a charming Himalayan hamlet nestled beside a stream that originates from the picturesque Kareri Lake. Participants will have the opportunity to spend the night in comfortable tents, surrounded by the serene beauty of the Himalayan landscape.

Day 3:- Reyot Camp to Kareri Lake – 2934 m
Today's trek of 6 kilometers will take us to the renowned Kareri Lake, situated at an elevation of 3100 meters above sea level. This pristine lake is fed by the melting snow of the majestic Dhauladhar Range and remains frozen from early December to March-April, making it a captivating sight for visitors. Additionally, a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Shakti is perched on a hilltop, offering a breathtaking view of the lake. The scenery here is truly awe-inspiring! We will be spending the night in tents, surrounded by the beauty of nature.

Day 4: Kareri Lake to Kareri Village ( 13km trek ) to Dharamshala drive 35 Km
After enjoying a delicious breakfast amidst the serene beauty of nature, we conclude our trek and make our way back to Kareri Village. Known for its picturesque landscapes and charming village atmosphere, Kareri Village offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Once in the village, we arrange for a cab to take us back to Dharamshala, a popular hill station known for its Tibetan culture and stunning mountain views. The journey back allows us to reflect on the amazing experiences we've had during our trek, from traversing through lush forests to encountering local wildlife. Overall, this trek has been both fulfilling and rejuvenating, leaving us with memories that will last a lifetime.

Gaggal Airport or Kangra Airport at Dharamshala is about 20 km away from McLeod Ganj and is well connected to Delhi, Kullu, and Chandigarh. A number of state-owned and private buses connect McLeod Ganj with other cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, and Dharamshala. Pathankot Railway Station, situated approximately 90 km away, is the closest broad gauge railhead serving those headed to McLeod Ganj.
