About the Triund Trek with Camping

The Triund Trek with camping is a classic two-day Himalayan adventure above McLeod Ganj and Dharamshala. The trail climbs through Dharamkot, Gallu Devi Temple and peaceful oak, deodar and rhododendron forest before reaching the open Triund ridge. At approximately 2,850 metres (9,350 feet), the campsite offers sweeping views of the Dhauladhar Range on one side and the Kangra Valley on the other.

Designed for active beginners as well as experienced walkers, this guided Triund camping package combines a scenic mountain hike, sunset views, an overnight tent stay and sunrise in the Himalayas. The route is approximately 14–18 km return, depending on the starting point, with four to five hours of uphill walking on the first day and three to four hours of descent on the second. The final section is steeper, so comfortable trekking shoes and a reasonable fitness level are recommended.

Your local trek leader manages route guidance, campsite arrangements and meals included in the package. Weather and forest regulations can affect camping permissions, and the itinerary may be adjusted for safety. The best months are generally March to June and September to December, while winter departures depend on snow and trail conditions. Book the Triund Trek with Camping from Dharamshala for a short, rewarding Himalayan experience close to McLeod Ganj.

Triund Trek Camping Itinerary: 2 Days and 1 Night

  • Day 1: Bhagsu Nag to Triund Top – Trek and Camping

Distance: Approximately 7–9 km Walking time: 4–5 hours Meals: Dinner Stay: Dome tent on a sharing basis, subject to local permissions Meet your trek leader at Bhagsu Nag for an introduction, route briefing and equipment check. Begin the Triund Trek through Dharamkot and continue towards Gallu Devi Temple, the traditional gateway to the trail. Walk through oak, deodar and rhododendron forest while enjoying changing views of McLeod Ganj and the Kangra Valley. The gradient becomes steeper near the final section, commonly known as the “22 curves.” Take regular breaks and follow your guide’s pace. On reaching Triund Top at approximately 2,850 metres, enjoy panoramic views of the Dhauladhar Range, explore the ridge and watch the Himalayan sunset when weather permits. Settle into the authorised campsite, have a freshly prepared vegetarian dinner and spend the night in a dome tent.

  • Day 2: Sunrise at Triund and Descent to Bhagsu Nag

Distance: Approximately 7–9 km Walking time: 3–4 hours Meals: Breakfast Wake early for sunrise over the Kangra Valley and admire the morning light on the Dhauladhar peaks. After breakfast, pack your belongings, check the campsite and make sure no waste is left behind. Your trek leader will brief the group about the descent and the day’s trail conditions. Begin the return trek from Triund Top through the forest route towards Gallu Devi Temple, Dharamkot and Bhagsu Nag. The downhill walk is easier on the lungs but can place more pressure on the knees, so maintain a steady pace and use trekking poles if required. Stop at safe viewpoints for photographs and short breaks. Depending on the weather, trail conditions and available time, the group may visit Bhagsu Waterfall before finishing the trek at Bhagsu Nag. The Triund camping experience ends on arrival, leaving the rest of the day free to explore McLeod Ganj or continue your onward journey.
