The trail starts from McLeod Ganj and ascends approximately 9 kilometers to reach Triund, with an elevation gain of around 1,100 meters. Along the way, trekkers pass through quaint villages, grazing pastures, and rocky terrain before reaching the picturesque campsite at Triund. This day hike is suitable for beginner to intermediate level trekkers and can be completed in about 4-5 hours one way. Triund Day Trek Quick Facts:
Embark on a journey to the Himalayan foothills, the gateway to the majestic Dhauladhar Mountains. Begin your day with an early breakfast in McLeod Ganj before setting off on a picturesque trek through a diverse forest of oak, rhododendron, and deodar trees. This popular day hike offers a haven for birdwatchers, with various songbirds to be spotted along the trail. The well-marked path leads you up to Triund, where you can choose to drive to Galu temple and commence your 3-4 hour steep ascent to the alpine meadow. Along the way, small tea shops offer a welcome respite for refreshments. While some sections of the climb may be challenging, the serene surroundings of Rhododendron and Oak trees make the journey worthwhile. As you reach the Triund ridge, you'll be greeted with breathtaking views of the Dhauladhar peaks and the Kangra valley. After a light lunch at Triund, begin your descent back to McLeod Ganj, passing by the impressive Bhagsunag waterfall. The return journey is quicker, allowing you to savor the beauty of the landscape. If time permits, make a stop at Shiva Café for evening snacks, admire the majestic Bhagsunag waterfall, and pay a visit to the Bhagsunag temple for blessings.
