About the Dalai Lama Trek and Taj Mahal Tour

Embark on an unforgettable 11-day Dalai Lama Trek and Taj Mahal Tour, combining Himalayan adventure, Tibetan spirituality, traditional village life and India’s magnificent cultural heritage.

The journey begins in Delhi before continuing to Dharamshala and McLeodganj, home to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and one of the most important centres of Tibetan culture outside Tibet. Visit the peaceful Tsuglagkhang Complex, explore Buddhist monasteries and discover the distinctive traditions, cuisine and spiritual heritage of the local Tibetan community.

The adventure includes a five-day Himalayan trek near Dharamshala, with approximately six to nine hours of walking on selected days. The route passes through traditional Himachali villages, pine and rhododendron forests, mountain streams and alpine meadows. Along the way, meet local residents, learn about the lifestyle of Gaddi shepherds and enjoy spectacular views of the snow-covered Dhauladhar mountains.

The trek passes through Kareri Village, Bal Village and Triund before continuing to Laka Got, the highest point of the journey at approximately 3,300 metres. Trail and snow conditions vary according to the season, but every section offers a rewarding combination of mountain scenery, cultural encounters and peaceful Himalayan surroundings.

After completing the trek, travel through Delhi and Agra to explore some of North India’s most celebrated monuments. Visit Agra Fort and experience the timeless beauty of the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

This carefully designed Himalayan trekking and cultural tour in India offers much more than a physical challenge. It creates a meaningful connection with nature, introduces travellers to Tibetan and Himachali culture, and brings together the Himalayas and the Taj Mahal in one remarkable Indian adventure.

Season planning

Best time for the Dalai Lama Trek

Spring and early summer

March to June generally brings clearer walking conditions, flowering forests and increasingly mild days. Higher sections may retain snow early in the season.

Autumn

September to November often offers crisp visibility and cool nights after the monsoon. Temperatures can fall quickly at camp, so warm layers are essential.
Monsoon and winter: heavy rain, snow or unstable trails can alter or prevent higher walks. The operating season and exact route must always be reconfirmed for your dates. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so Agra sightseeing may be reordered.
