DHARAMSHALA · MCLEOD GANJ · KANGRA VALLEY
Dharamshala Tour Packages & Travel Guide
Choose a Dharamshala holiday that matches your pace: Tibetan culture in McLeod Ganj, relaxed family sightseeing, a guided Triund trek or a longer journey through the Kangra Valley.
This guide explains the tour options, a suggested four-day itinerary and the details to confirm before booking with Manu Adventures India, based in Bhagsunag.

Mountain trails are an optional addition to your sightseeing holiday.
Find the right Dharamshala tour for you
The durations below are planning suggestions, starting with arrival in the Dharamshala area. Long-distance travel may require extra days. Each itinerary can be adjusted after your arrival time, hotel preferences and interests are known.
Classic sightseeing · 3–4 days
A good first visit combining McLeod Ganj, the Dalai Lama Temple Complex, Bhagsunag, Naddi and selected lower Dharamshala sights. Keep one day flexible for weather and unhurried exploring.
Culture & slow travel · 4–5 days
Spend more time with Tibetan heritage, Norbulingka’s arts and crafts, monasteries, markets and local food. Guided visits and any special sessions require advance arrangements.
Sightseeing & Triund · 4–6 days
Balance town visits with a guided mountain day. Reasonable fitness, proper walking shoes and a flexible weather plan are essential. Overnight stays depend on the booked route and permitted arrangements.
Family & couples · 4–6 days
Choose a comfortable hotel base, relaxed sightseeing and time for cafés or nature walks. Share requirements for vehicle access, stairs, child seats and rooms before confirming.
Kangra Valley extension · 6–8 days
Add Palampur tea country, Kangra Fort, Masroor’s rock-cut temples or Bir. Allow travel time between locations instead of trying to fit every excursion into a single day.

A suggested 4-day Dharamshala itinerary
This sample is a sightseeing itinerary, with three hotel nights. The final order depends on arrival times, weekly closures, weather and your hotel location. Tickets, guide services and transfers are confirmed in your quotation.
Day 1 · Arrive & settle in
Transfer to your hotel if booked, check in and take an easy walk near your accommodation. With an early arrival, consider McLeod Ganj’s market and cafés. Keep the evening light after a long journey.
Day 2 · McLeod Ganj & Bhagsunag
Visit the Dalai Lama Temple Complex and explore McLeod Ganj. Continue to Bhagsunag Temple, with an optional uphill walk toward the waterfall if the path is suitable. Add St John in the Wilderness or Naddi as time allows.
Day 3 · Lower Dharamshala & culture
Plan selected visits such as Norbulingka Institute, the Tibet Museum at Gangkyi, the War Memorial or HPCA Stadium. Opening days, public access and event restrictions must be checked before setting the route.
Day 4 · A gentle morning & departure
Enjoy breakfast and a short local walk if departure time allows, then transfer to your onward connection if arranged. To add Triund, extend the itinerary by a full day rather than rushing it before a flight.
Places to visit around Dharamshala
McLeod Ganj & Tibetan heritage
Make time for the temple complex, monastery surroundings, local shops and Tibetan food. Dress respectfully, follow photography rules and keep a quiet atmosphere in prayer areas.
Bhagsunag, Dharamkot & Naddi
These areas suit short walks, cafés and mountain viewpoints. The waterfall path includes uphill walking and steps; views depend on cloud cover. Choose a shorter outing if mobility is limited.
Kangra Valley day trips
Palampur, Kangra Fort, Masroor and Bir offer different landscapes and cultural stops. Pick one sensible route for the day. A Bir Billing paragliding extension is subject to operator availability and flying conditions.

When to visit & how to reach Dharamshala
Choose a season for your activities
March–June: a popular period for sightseeing and outdoor plans, with busier holidays.
September–November: often chosen for mountain views and walking after the monsoon.
Winter: bring warm layers; upper areas can experience snow and icy paths.
Monsoon: rain can disrupt roads, views and trails. Keep plans flexible.
Conditions vary with elevation. Confirm the current weather and route suitability before any trek; snowfall and clear views cannot be guaranteed.
Plan your arrival & local travel
By air: Kangra Airport, also called Gaggal or Dharamshala Airport (DHM), serves the area; a road transfer is needed to your hotel.
By rail: Pathankot and Una Himachal are options followed by a road journey. Choose based on your train connection and arrival time.
By road: buses and private vehicles connect Dharamshala with other cities. Road conditions and traffic affect journey times.
Share your actual ticket details before arranging pickup. A private vehicle makes dispersed sightseeing easier, while some upper-town lanes still require walking.
What your tour quotation should include
There is no single fixed price for every Dharamshala package. Cost depends on travel dates, group size, hotel category, room sharing, vehicle, guide, activities and meal plan. Compare the services listed in writing rather than a headline price alone.
Confirm the included services
- Hotel name or category, room type and number of nights.
- Exact meals: breakfast only, breakfast and dinner, or another agreed plan.
- Pickup and drop-off points, sightseeing route and vehicle arrangements.
- Local guide, trek guide, equipment and permits when specifically booked.
- Taxes, attraction tickets and any other charges included in the total.
Check optional costs & exclusions
- Flights, train or bus tickets unless expressly included.
- Meals outside the selected plan, drinks and personal purchases.
- Entry fees, parking, guide services or activities not listed as included.
- Travel insurance, personal trekking gear and porter support unless agreed.
- Extra nights, changed routes or additional transport outside the confirmed plan.
Before paying, review the written booking terms and our refund policy. Mention accessibility needs, dietary requests and your walking experience when you enquire so the itinerary can be planned appropriately.
Add trekking at a sensible pace
A sightseeing holiday and a mountain trek need different preparation. Triund is a sustained uphill walk on uneven ground, even though it is often chosen by first-time Himalayan trekkers. Wear supportive shoes, carry water and layers, and allow time for both the ascent and descent.
For a longer adventure, ask about Kareri Lake or other Dhauladhar routes after sharing your experience and travel dates. Higher routes are seasonal. We will confirm the proposed trail, overnight arrangements, guide support and included equipment in your quotation.

Dharamshala tour planning FAQs
How many days do I need for Dharamshala?
Allow three to four days for Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj sightseeing. Add at least one full day for a guided Triund hike, and more time for a slower pace or excursions to Palampur, Kangra or Bir.
What is the difference between Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj?
Dharamshala includes the lower town and surrounding areas. McLeod Ganj is the upper town, known for Tibetan cultural sites, cafés and access to Bhagsunag and Dharamkot. Your hotel location affects driving time, walking and vehicle access.
Can I combine sightseeing with the Triund trek?
Yes. Keep sightseeing and the trek on separate days. Triund requires several hours of uphill walking and a descent on uneven trails. Share your fitness level and travel dates so we can advise on a suitable route and current conditions.
Are Dharamshala packages suitable for families and senior travellers?
They can be tailored with shorter sightseeing days and fewer steps. Tell us about walking limits, stairs, dietary needs and room access before we suggest hotels. Bhagsu Waterfall and mountain trails are not step-free attractions.
Are hotels, meals and airport transfers included?
Only the services listed in your written quotation are included. Choose hotel category, meal plan, private sightseeing vehicle, guide and transfers when enquiring. Attraction tickets and trekking arrangements should be itemised separately.
Can you arrange a private Dharamshala tour?
Yes, ask Manu Adventures India for a customised itinerary for your dates and group size. Private tours allow more control over sightseeing pace, hotel location, start times and optional excursions.
Can I meet the Dalai Lama during my visit?
A temple visit does not include an audience or teaching. Any public event depends on the official schedule, registration and security arrangements. Do not plan your holiday around an unconfirmed meeting.
How do I request a Dharamshala tour quote?
Send your dates, number of travellers, arrival and departure points, hotel preference and interests through the enquiry page. Mention any walking limitations and whether you want Triund, Bir Billing or other extensions.
Plan your Dharamshala holiday with a local team
Tell Manu Adventures India your travel dates, group size, arrival point, preferred hotel standard and the experiences you want most. We will use those details to prepare a suitable itinerary and a quotation with clear inclusions.
