This is a useful period to consider for general sightseeing and local walks. Pack layers for changing temperatures and cooler evenings. Holiday periods can be busy, so reserve suitable accommodation and transfers ahead rather than assuming the quietest or cheapest stay.
Rain can bring green landscapes but also road disruption and unsuitable paths. Keep indoor alternatives and do not plan waterfall approaches or mountain walks during heavy rain. Check current local advice and build flexibility into both the sightseeing schedule and the journey home.
Autumn is another useful planning window for cultural visits and outdoor time. Visibility and weather still vary. If trekking is part of your stay, ask about the actual route and recent conditions instead of treating a seasonal recommendation as a guarantee.
Bring warm clothing and confirm heating and access at your accommodation. Snow in higher areas does not mean dependable snow in McLeod Ganj. Trail restrictions and difficult surfaces may change walking plans. Choose a stay that is enjoyable for its cafés and culture even if mountain activities are unsuitable.
Snow is not guaranteed in town on fixed dates. Ask about recent local conditions and avoid booking solely around a promised snowfall experience.
