Explore the Triund trekWalk through Himalayan forest to a wide mountain ridge, with the Dhauladhar peaks ahead and Kangra Valley below. Enjoy a guided day trek and return to town the same day.
The Triund day hike is a rewarding way to experience the mountains above McLeod Ganj without an overnight stay. The climb takes you along forest trails, rocky steps and open stretches before reaching Triund’s grassy ridge. On a clear day, the Dhauladhar range fills the skyline and the Kangra Valley opens out below.
Meet the Manu Adventures India team in Bhagsu Nag, near McLeod Ganj, for your briefing. A mountain trekking guide accompanies the hike, and a vegetarian packed lunch is included. Bring a light daypack and leave enough time for both the ascent and descent.
This is a full day of walking. Active beginners who are comfortable with several hours of uphill hiking may enjoy it, but the steeper final stretch and uneven descent require stamina and careful footing.
Plan for approximately 16 km of walking on a round trip starting in the Bhagsu Nag / McLeod Ganj area. The exact distance changes with the trail, meeting point and any arranged road transfer. Allow roughly 7–9 hours for walking, breaks and lunch; your pace and trail conditions will affect the schedule.
The Gallu Devi Temple approach and the steeper Bhagsunag-side trails offer different starts. The team will confirm the day’s route and start time before departure. A taxi to Gallu, if arranged, changes the walking distance and costs extra because transport is excluded.
Views depend on cloud cover. Tea shops and mobile reception can be limited, so carry your own water, snacks and essential supplies.
Have breakfast before arrival. Meet the team in Bhagsu Nag for a route briefing, a check of your daypack and confirmation of the return plan. An early start leaves more time for the climb and a daylight descent.
Follow the guide through wooded slopes and rocky trail sections. Take regular breaks as the gradient increases. The final approach is more demanding, so keep a steady pace and allow the group to stay together.
Enjoy your vegetarian packed lunch and time to appreciate the ridge. When the weather is clear, look across the Kangra Valley and towards the Dhauladhar mountains. Your guide will set a turnaround time for the descent.
Descend carefully on uneven ground and return the same day. A waterfall or café stop is possible only if the chosen route, available daylight and group pace permit; it is not a guaranteed part of the hike.
The itinerary may change with weather, access restrictions or trail conditions. Reaching the ridge is subject to the guide’s assessment on the day.
Ask the team to confirm your final quote and any applicable entry or local charges before booking. Share dietary requirements when you enquire.
Spring and the period after the monsoon are good seasons to consider. March–June and late September–November often suit day hikes, subject to local weather and trail access. Monsoon rain can make the trail slippery, while winter snow or ice can affect the route. Ask our local team about conditions for your date before making travel plans.
The meeting point is in Bhagsu Nag, close to McLeod Ganj, above Dharamshala. Arrange your bus, flight or road journey separately and allow time to reach the office before the hike. For directions and arrival planning, contact our Dharamshala team.
The advertised group minimum is four people. Departures depend on group availability, weather and trail access. Solo travellers and smaller groups can ask about joining a departure or arranging a private hike; the team will confirm options and pricing.
Stay on the trail, carry all rubbish back, avoid disturbing wildlife and respect local communities. Follow your guide’s instructions and keep the group together during the climb and descent.

Allow approximately 16 km for a round trip from the Bhagsu Nag / McLeod Ganj area and roughly 7–9 hours including breaks. A different trailhead or an arranged taxi transfer changes the distance. Your guide will confirm the route before departure.
Triund ridge is approximately 2,875 metres above sea level. This is the destination elevation, not the total climb from the meeting point.
Active beginners who are comfortable with prolonged uphill walking may find it suitable. Treat it as a moderate hike: the final climb is steep in places, the surface is uneven and the descent can be tiring. Tell the team about your hiking experience when enquiring.
