HIMALAYAN TREKKING
Prepare for the actual route, choose suitable support and keep mountain plans flexible when the weather or your group’s needs change.

Compare daily walking time, ascent, terrain and overnight stops with your recent experience. Be candid about how far you normally walk and how you handle hills. If you have health concerns, discuss the proposed activity with a qualified clinician before booking rather than relying on an online difficulty label.
Wear suitable footwear and bring layers, weather protection, a light source and the personal items your guide requests. Check what the organiser supplies and whether it is suitable for the expected conditions. Tell someone your route and expected return, and understand how the group will communicate where phone coverage is limited.
Ask about recent weather, route access and any local restrictions before departure. Listen to the guide’s decisions on timing, pace and turning back. A summit, lake or pass should remain optional if conditions change; reaching the objective is only one part of a successful trip.
Allow time for a slower descent and weather-related changes. Do not attach a demanding mountain day to an inflexible onward booking. Confirm who coordinates assistance and how changes to transport or accommodation are handled. Good preparation makes those decisions easier if the original plan becomes unsuitable.

Yes. A shorter route can still involve steep ground, changing weather and a tiring descent. Prepare for the actual walking conditions and the group’s needs.
