Jalsu Pass, situated at an elevation of 3900 meters, serves as a crucial crossing over the western Dhauladhar range, connecting the Chamba and Kangra valleys. The trekking trail leading to the pass winds through lush green pastures, offering a picturesque journey for adventurers.
This pass, although relatively low in height, plays a significant role in linking the Kangra Valley with the Chamba District. For centuries, Gaddi shepherds have relied on this path to travel between Kangra and their homeland in Chamba. At an altitude of 3450 meters above sea level, Jalsu Pass features a gently sloping trail on its North side, making it a popular route for the Gaddi tribes.
While not as well-known among tourists as some of the other Dhauladhar Passes, Jalsu Pass offers a unique and enriching experience. The best time to embark on this trek is between April and September, particularly before the monsoon season when the valley bursts into bloom with a variety of flowers, living up to its reputation as the ‘Valley of Flowers’. The trek can commence from either the Chamba or Kangra side, providing flexibility for travelers.
The breathtaking meadows that adorn the Jalsu Pass trek and its surroundings offer a mesmerizing panorama. Serving as the easiest connecting link between the Chamba and Kangra Valleys, Jalsu Pass is a must-visit destination for those seeking a blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage.
Upon arrival in Delhi, we are met by our local guides and transfer to a Hotel in Delhi to freshen up. There will be some free time to explore Delhi this afternoon, before we take the transfer to the train station to catch our sleeper train to Pathankot.
After breakfast drive to Chamba. Overnight stay at Hotel in Chamba. Afternoon visit Chamunda Devi Temple above Chamba town from where you have a good view of Chamba town and the ravi river below. Also visit the ancient Laxmi Narayan Temples to participate in the evening prayer. Overnight stay in Hotel.
This day we do a side drive into the mountain village of Chatrari. After a short drive from Chamba we take a narrow mountain road to reach Chatrari village. Visit the ancient Shakti Devi Temple in Chatrari village. Continue drive to Deyol Village where we camp for overnight stay.
After an hour walk on the rough road we get to Nayagran, a tribal village at the last road-head in Chamba valley. After visiting the village we continue our walk to Laka, a small temple at the end of the village. From here it is a steep downhill walk to cross a small stream over a wooden bridge. After crossing the stream it is uphill walk to the next village called Surai. Camp for overnight stay.
Located in the scenic and serene meadows of Yaragot, the uphill walk leading to the camp for an overnight stay offers a rejuvenating experience for avid nature enthusiasts. The picturesque surroundings feature lush greenery, vibrant flowers, and a refreshing breeze that invigorates the senses. As visitors trek through the long meadows, they are greeted with breathtaking views of the landscape, making it a truly unforgettable journey. The camp itself provides a tranquil retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, allowing guests to unwind and connect with nature on a deeper level. With comfortable accommodations and essential amenities, this overnight stay promises a rejuvenating experience in the heart of nature's beauty. Whether seeking solitude or adventure, Yaragot's meadows offer an idyllic setting for those looking to escape and recharge their spirits amidst stunning scenery.
This short stage is included in order to allow climbers to acclimatize to the high altitude before attempting the more difficult ascent. Setting up camp at the base of Jalsu allows for a gradual adjustment to the thinner air and lower oxygen levels typically found at higher altitudes. This process is crucial for preventing altitude sickness and ensuring the safety and well-being of climbers during their expedition. Spending time at this base camp also provides an opportunity for rest, hydration, and preparation before embarking on the challenging climb ahead. Professional mountain guides often recommend incorporating such acclimatization stages into any high-altitude trek or summit attempt to maximize the chances of a successful and enjoyable climbing experience.
After a short ascent for an hour and half we get to the top of the pass. From the pass we have distant view of the snowcovered Himalayan peaks on one side the valley on the other. During April and May the trail to the pass is under snow and you have to walk on the snow to reach the pass. From the pass it is steep downhill walk for three to four hours to Parai, a temporary shepherd encampement. Camp here for night stay.
After breakfast start your last day walk down to the nearest road-head at Uttarala in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Your driver/car will wait for you at the road-head and drive to Dharamsala Afternoon drive to Dharamsala. Check in Hotel/Guest House. Evening visit H.H. Dalai Lama Temple.
We have a free morning to further explore this magical town – why not visit the Tibetan market or take a visit to one of the majestic monasteries? In the afternoon, we take the transfer back to Pathankot train station to catch the overnight sleeper train back to Delhi. Overnight: Train.
We arrive in Delhi and jump straight onto our waiting bus to take the transfer to Agra. Upon arrival, we check into our Hotel. Later we visit the incomparable Taj Mahal – no visit to India would be the same without seeing it! Built by the Mughal Emporer, Shah Jahan in loving memory of his wife and will always be a symbol of undying love for anyone who sees it. Overnight: Hotel.
As professionals, it is imperative that we adhere to strict schedules and timelines to ensure the successful execution of our tasks and responsibilities. In order to fulfill our commitments, we must prioritize punctuality and efficiency in all aspects of our work. Therefore, taking the very early transfer back to Delhi to catch our flight back home is a critical step towards maintaining professionalism and meeting our obligations. By planning ahead and allowing ample time for potential delays or obstacles, we demonstrate a high level of dedication and accountability. This practice not only reflects positively on our individual work ethic but also contributes to the overall success and reputation of our organization. As professionals, it is essential that we prioritize timeliness and responsibility in every aspect of our work to achieve optimal results and uphold the standard of excellence expected in professional environments.

Gaggal Airport or Kangra Airport at Dharamshala is about 20 km away from McLeod Ganj and is well connected to Delhi, Kullu, and Chandigarh. A number of state-owned and private buses connect McLeod Ganj with other cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, and Dharamshala. Pathankot Railway Station, situated approximately 90 km away, is the closest broad gauge railhead serving those headed to McLeod Ganj.

It was a good hike to Indraha pass, tough at times and demanded some good fitness and good mental fortitude. Manu was exceptional with the service he provided and how fast I was able to get a slot to go hiking (the next day). I did the 3 night 4 day package and that included a solid breakfast, packed lunch and cooked hot dinner in the evenings. My guide Shivam was a top bloke, very very good guide and hiker and felt incredibly safe when hiking some difficult passes with him. Always attentive and an all round top bloke. Wish I could give more than 5 stars. Don't hesitate in booking onto this.Subash Anchalose21 June 2024Excellent service.
