HIMALAYAN TRAILS · TIBETAN CULTURE · MUGHAL HERITAGE
Walk through the Dhauladhar foothills, camp along the Kareri Lake route and explore McLeodganj before travelling to Agra for the Taj Mahal. A journey for travellers who want several days on the trail as well as time with North India’s cultural landmarks.
12 days / 11 nights · Five trekking days · Delhi round trip
This Dharamshala trek and Taj Mahal tour follows a 12-day Delhi-to-Delhi itinerary, with five trekking days through Kareri Village, Reyot, Kareri Lake and Chandrala before returning via Salli. Dharamshala—also commonly written Dharamsala—adds a Tibetan cultural dimension, while Agra brings a contrasting heritage finale.
This is an active camping journey, not a sightseeing tour with a short walk attached. It suits travellers comfortable with successive walking days, uneven paths and basic mountain camps. Read our Dharamshala guide to get to know the area.

Your written proposal should confirm the full cost and inclusions before you book. The items below summarise the current itinerary; details marked for confirmation are not an all-inclusive promise.
Route: Delhi → Pathankot → Dharamshala → Kareri Lake circuit → Delhi → Agra → Delhi

12 days / 11 nights, including two overnight train journeys. This is the planned route, not a guarantee of specific camps or transport timings. We confirm the detailed schedule before departure and adapt it when weather, access or operational conditions require.
Meet your transfer and check into the hotel. Keep the afternoon flexible after your journey; an evening visit to India Gate can be planned if arrival time allows. Overnight in Delhi.
Explore a selection of Delhi sights such as Lodhi Garden, Lotus Temple and Akshardham, with the order adjusted for opening days and traffic. Travel overnight towards Pathankot; train and class are confirmed with your booking.
Continue by road into the Himalayan foothills. Settle into your hotel and explore McLeodganj’s Tibetan cultural setting, markets and monasteries as time allows. No meeting with the Dalai Lama is included or guaranteed.
Begin the walking section towards Kareri Village through forests and settlements. Your guide confirms the starting point, day’s distance and campsite according to local access. Overnight in camp.
Follow the mountain trail towards Reyot, with time for a steady pace and rest breaks. This is a second consecutive walking day, so arrive prepared for sustained uphill travel and simple campsite facilities.
Continue towards Kareri Lake and its mountain setting. Visit the temple surroundings where accessible and follow your guide’s instructions. Camp location and lake access depend on weather, ground conditions and local permissions.
Leave the lake area and descend towards the planned Chandrala camp. Downhill walking still requires concentration on uneven ground. The guide may adapt the route or overnight stop when conditions require.
Complete the walking stage towards Salli, then transfer by road back to Dharamshala. Return to a hotel for a shower, rest and an evening away from camp.
Use the morning for a relaxed look around McLeodganj before driving to the station for the overnight return journey. Keep plans flexible around the confirmed train schedule.
Arrive in Delhi and travel by road to Agra. Settle into your hotel. A Kalakriti cultural performance may be arranged if operating; availability and ticket inclusion must be confirmed in your proposal.
Plan an early visit to the Taj Mahal, then return to Delhi for the night. The monument is closed to general visitors on Fridays, so the sightseeing order must fit your travel dates. Sunrise visibility and crowd levels vary.
Transfer to the airport for your onward journey. Any final sightseeing depends on flight times and traffic; leave a practical buffer for the airport transfer.
The itinerary is graded moderate, but five successive walking days make it more demanding than a single-day hike. Expect uphill and downhill sections, uneven terrain and camping. Share your recent walking experience so we can discuss whether the route suits you.
No. This itinerary follows the Kareri Lake circuit through Kareri Village, Reyot and Chandrala. It is a different route from a Triund-based holiday. Check the daily plan when comparing Himalayan trekking packages.
The plan combines twin-share hotels, four scheduled camping nights and two overnight train journeys. Ask for the hotel category, tent sharing, facilities and reserved train class in your written proposal.
Yes. Return Delhi–Pathankot train tickets and sleeping bags are included. Your written proposal will confirm the reserved train class and the complete equipment list.
Contact us to discuss dates, hotel preferences, walking pace and sightseeing priorities. Changes may affect the duration and quote. The published group itinerary lists a minimum of four travellers.
The Taj Mahal is closed to general visitors on Fridays. We need to schedule the Agra visit on another day and adjust the order where necessary.
Price on request. Contact us for a written quote for your dates and group size. Confirm the final total, inclusions, payment schedule and cancellation terms before paying.
Spring and autumn are useful starting points for planning, but the higher trail must be checked close to departure. Snow can affect early-season access, while monsoon rain can disrupt paths and roads. Delhi and Agra may be much warmer than the camps. Ask us to assess your exact dates rather than relying on a month alone.
Bring well-broken-in walking shoes, layered clothing, rain protection, a warm hat, sun protection, a headlamp, a reusable water bottle and a daypack. Carry your regular personal medicines and travel documents. Sleeping bags are included. Confirm baggage transfer limits, the complete equipment list and storage arrangements before leaving home.
Our team is based near McLeodganj, giving you a local contact for the mountain part of the journey as well as the wider itinerary. Speak with us about walking pace, campsite expectations and transport connections. Learn more about Manu Adventures India and our team.
