From mountain regions to cultural cities, choose a route with time to experience each place.

What kind of India trip are you planning?

Culture & heritage

Build a journey around architecture, living traditions, markets and regional food. Choose well-connected cities and leave time for guided visits, local exploration and breaks.

Guided Himalayan trekking

Compare short ridge walks with multi-day camping routes. Daily walking effort, altitude, terrain, season and support should determine the choice.

A combined private journey

Balance active days with cultural visits and comfortable stays. Make the transport between stages part of the plan rather than adding extra regions without enough time.

Explore India by region

Start with the part of India you most want to experience, then use the linked programmes to compare actual routes and services. Availability and inclusions are confirmed for your dates.

Himachal & the Dhauladhar

Base a mountain journey around Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj. Choose a shorter guided walk, a supported camping trek or a longer route after discussing fitness and the season.

Uttarakhand walking journeys

Compare routes such as Kedarkantha and Valley of Flowers. Each has its own operating season, approach, altitude and walking demands; a shared “Himalayan” label does not make them interchangeable.

Rajasthan’s heritage cities

Plan a journey through forts, old towns, lakes and regional food. Choose a sensible sequence of stops, with enough time between cities and a hotel style that fits your trip.

Delhi, Agra & Jaipur

The Golden Triangle brings together three distinct cities and a practical introduction to North Indian heritage. Allow time for monuments, neighbourhoods, traffic and your arrival and departure connections.

Ladakh & high-altitude travel

Explore the high mountain landscape through a suitable cultural or active itinerary. Altitude, adjustment time, road access and seasonal logistics need to shape the programme from the start.

Kerala’s hills & backwaters

Combine selected towns, hill country, waterways and coastal time at a slower pace. Fewer hotel changes can leave more room for local food, scenery and rest.

Choose a trek for your experience

A shorter first trek

Triund is an option to discuss for active beginners with limited time near Dharamshala. It still involves a sustained climb, uneven ground and a descent.

A longer camping route

Kareri Lake and Laka Got offer different landscapes and approaches. Confirm the daily stages, camp plan and transfers before choosing a programme.

A high-altitude journey

Markha Valley and more demanding mountain routes need a route-specific assessment of experience, adjustment time, season and support.

Start with our beginner Himalayan trekking guide if you are new to mountain walking. Snow, pass access and reaching a particular viewpoint cannot be guaranteed.

Three ways to shape a combined itinerary

Himalayas & the Taj Mahal

The published 11-day Dalai Lama Trek & Taj Mahal tour combines five trekking days near Dharamshala, Tibetan cultural visits and Agra’s heritage. It is a specific programme to assess against your fitness and dates.

A heritage-focused first visit

Start with Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, then consider a Rajasthan extension if your available time allows. Decide whether you prefer more destinations or longer stays in fewer places.

A slower southern journey

Choose a Kerala route that balances hill country, backwaters and relaxed time. Select your hotel standard and pace before adding extra stops or flights.

Match the season to the region

Mountain trips

Himalayan routes do not share one universal season. Lower Dharamshala trails, snowy upper passes and Ladakh have different conditions. Check the exact route, road access and current operating plan.

Allow flexibility for rain, snow and changing trail conditions. A published itinerary is not a live trail-opening report.

Cities, coast & hill country

Many plains-based heritage routes are considered during cooler months, while coastal and southern journeys follow different rainfall patterns. Crowds, festivals and holiday periods also affect planning and availability.

Use Incredible India’s regional weather information as a starting point, then check your actual destinations and dates.

Know what is included before you book

There is no single inclusion list or fixed price covering every India tour and trek. Your written quotation should identify the services for each part of the journey.

Practical planning for international visitors

Build a realistic route

Share your actual arrival and departure points before the route is finalised. Allow for airport and station transfers, long road stages, luggage limits and rest after international travel.

Keep a buffer after a weather-sensitive mountain stage and before an important onward connection. A longer list of destinations does not necessarily make a better holiday.

Prepare the details early

Check current entry requirements through the official India visa portal. Confirm any route-specific permissions, document requirements and activity arrangements.

Tell us about room-access needs, dietary requests and walking limitations. Arrange insurance suited to the activities and discuss personal health preparation with an appropriate professional.

For broader preparation, read our India travel planning guide. Trekking visitors can also use the Dharamshala route comparison to discuss suitable mountain options.

India tours and treks FAQs

Do you arrange one itinerary covering all of India?

A single trip cannot meaningfully cover every region. We help select a realistic route around your dates and interests, then connect the chosen stages. For shorter holidays, focus on one region or a compact combination.

Can I combine trekking with an India cultural tour?

Yes, with enough time and a suitable season. The Dalai Lama Trek & Taj Mahal programme is a published example. The final plan should account for walking days, rest, transport and weather-related buffers.

Are these fixed group departures?

This overview does not promise a fixed group departure. Ask about private arrangements or available group options for your dates. Confirm group size, operating status and included services before making travel plans.

Which treks suit first-time trekkers?

A shorter route such as Triund can be discussed for active beginners. Longer, higher and more remote journeys require different preparation. Share your actual walking experience and use the route-specific itinerary to assess suitability.

Are flights, trains, meals and entry fees included?

Only if listed in the written quotation. Every itinerary has different arrangements. Check transport tickets, hotel nights, meal plans, guide services, permits, entry fees, equipment and any personal costs separately.

Can you customise hotels, food and guide arrangements?

Tell us your preferred hotel standard, room requirements, dietary needs and guide-language requests. We will confirm what can be arranged for the chosen route and dates; requests are not confirmed services until included in the proposal.

How much do India tours and treks cost?

Prices depend on dates, group size, route, accommodation, transport and support. Request an itemised quotation for your actual itinerary. Avoid comparing headline prices without checking the included services.

How do I request an itinerary?

Send your travel dates, number of travellers, available days, arrival and departure points, interests and approximate budget. For trekking, add recent walking experience and the level of support you prefer.
